ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

“In November, 2004, my sister, who was 10 years old and I, 14 years old then, were invited to sing in a fundraiser for a fifteen month old boy who was diagnosed with brain cancer and who had gone through surgery already. His name is Tucker Brown. After seeing how innocently happy Tucker was and seeing how he carried himself with no signs of pain or suffering, I realized how fortunate my sister and I were and how much we took our health and other blessings for granted. Tucker inspired us to find some way that we could help other children who were sick or in need of financial help. So, with the help of my parents, we established the ‘Shawn & Jessica Doolittle Children’s Charity Fund, Inc.,’ so we could use our God-given gifts of music to raise money for our cause.

In February, 2005, we had our first free-will offering concert. Through the donations of this concert, we were able to help ten local children in need. Soon after, we were invited to perform by the president of a summer camp for abused children called “Blooming Place for Kids”. It was so much fun to perform for them; they had so much energy and excitement just waiting to come out. After performing, we were so thankful we were given the opportunity to help these children forget about whatever worries or troubles that might have been on their minds because it gave them the chance to just let loose and have fun. It made us so happy to see them happy. It’s a liberating and wonderful feeling to know you helped bring out some joy in others, even for just a few moments. After that experience, we knew we’d be continuing to raise money for kids for as long as we could.

In September of 2006, ‘Shawn and Jessica Doolittle Children’s Charity Fund, Inc.’ officially became a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. We hope for the organization, through word-of-mouth and positive exposure, is to branch out to different counties and states and get more kids involved so they can share their talent for a great cause too.

Our mission statement is ‘To listen to the children’s voices and live within their hearts and you’ll surely feel the miracle in your life.’ We think it says it all. We believe kids are the lights or our world. In the midst of our chaotic lives, they always manage to find a way to get us to crack a smile, make us laugh and forget about our problems. We established this organization with the hope that each child would realize how extraordinary they are. We want them to know that no matter how many obstacles seem to be in the way of their goals, they can achieve anything and everything they want in life. Through “Kids Helping Kids”, we were able to show support for as many kids as we can. One child could make a difference!”  – Shawn Doolittle
